Sindelar, also known as “der Papiererne”, played for Austria Vienna and won the Mitropa Cup twice with Austria (1933 + 1936). For the Austrian national team he made 43 international appearances in which he scored 26 goals. He reached the semi-finals with Austria at the 1934 World Cup. Matthias Sindelar is still the football legend in Austria today. Provenance: Richard Hofman, one of the stars and the enfanterrible of German football, got this jersey directly from the Austrian star Matthias Sindelar after the game on September 13, 1931. Exchanging jerseys was completely unusual at this time; it is not documented whether Hofmann gave Sindelar his jersey. Richard Hofmann later gave this jersey as a gift to Ernst Fritsch, the former tenant and former “patron” of Dresdner SC. Mr. Fritzsche ran the stadium casino from the 1930s to the 1950s before he had to give it up (expropriated). Richard Hofmann and other DSC Dresden players gave Mr. Fritsche a lot of souvenirs.
